Our to 5 St. Thomas Anchorages are:

Druif Bay

Located on the east side of Water island. A tiny island just off the south coast of St. Thomas. Druif bay is home to Dinghy's beach bar. A great beach bar that give you all the incentive you need to anchor their. The beach is white sand overhung by palmtrees. Live music is being played almost everyday all day at the bar.

This is generally a very crowed anchorage. The water is deep 30-40 ft. So everyone has a lots of scope out. If the wind shifts you could be playing bumper boats very quickly. Some people put out way more then they should. Don't be that guy, the holding is good you don't need 8x.

Christmas Cove

This is more of a mooring field then a true anchorage. You can anchor their overnight. You just can't use a mooring ball overnight. The beach their is rocky and private. You can't go on it. So why is this on the top 4 list you ask.

Pizza PI! Pizza Pi is a boat on a mooring ball that cooks pizza for fellow boaters in the anchorage. I'm talking legit NY style pizza. I was in shock when I found out about it. $22 for a large roni, in the middle of the caribbean, anchored in a beautiful bay with turquoise water? Oh my goodness my life is complete. What else is left to discover. You have to go their. Just dinghy over or put your order in on CH16. The pizza is great. You won't be disapointed.

Magens Bay

Located on the very east end of the island this is a beautiful spot. You should anchor up in the northern corner. This beach and bay is totally pristine. The water is crystal clear and turquoise. The beach is white sand. it is lined with palmtress and is perfectly protected on all sides. The onlt thing that is going to get you here is a west wind.

In terms of services their isn't much of anything here. This is a bar and grill a short walk up the main road. Other then that plan on being self sufficent for the lenght of your stay here. Magens Bay is a postcard. You will find picture of it in every gift shop on the island.

Elephant Bay

This is one of the few designated mooring and anchoring spots in St. Thomas. It's just a little north of Druif Bay. So if that bay is to crowed head here. It is close enough to dinghy over to water island and hit dinghy's beach bar for the day. It is also closer to Charlotte Amile. About a 5 minute dinghy ride away.

Their is a mix of private mooring balls and I think some public ones. I picked up one with no marking on it for a few days without any hastle. Just make sure you don't pick one up with any writing on it. The wind does tend to wrap around the corners and can be gusty. I had the best sunset of the season in this bay.

RedHook

Honestly this anchorage kinda sucks. It's a nessesary evil though. It's a great spot to head out to St. John from. The beach in the bay is pretty nice. The water is very clear for a busy port. The night life and provisioning options are the best in the caribbean. So the pro's in my book outweigh the cons.

The cons of this anchorage are two fold. It faces almost due east. So any prevailing wind is going to hit you square on the bow. It's perfect for anything other then east. The holding is good but it's usually very full. Finding a spot can be hard if not impossible.

Secondly it is the rolliest anchorage I have ever been in. (basseterre in st. kitts may be worse) Their are ferries going in and out of the harbor from 6 am to I think 10pm. They fly into the harbor and de[power right when they hit the anchorage. This causes a massive swell that will cause you boat to rock close to 45 degrees. I've been in 15 ft seas and 25 knot of wind on the stern quarter and i did't roll as much as I did in here.
