Our to 5 Dominica Anchorages are:

There are only really four viable anchorages in Dominica. The reson for this is the Mountainous nature of this island. It is very steep and very cliffy. Making matters worse is the shear underwater drop offs. it goes from 50 ft to 500 ft with in 100 yards. There are only narrow shelves near shore. Anchoring can be dangerious.

The Dominica government is aware of this. In order to get more tourists to their beautiful island a mooring ball project is under way. The people are pouring as we speak over 80 concrete block to set up at various location to make Dominica a more cruiser freindly place. Below are the four viable options.

Prince Rupert Bay

This is a sweet spot. It is in the northern part of the island. It is well protected from a huge mountain at the entrance of the bay. I had to bailout here last season. Holding is only good close to shore. Their are mooring balls here on the cheep

Their is a big functioning town here with plenty of bars and places to eat. The cool thing about this anchorage is that there is a water station in the bay. You can pull your boat up and fill your tanks up with pure Dominican water. I know a few people that have filled up here and they say the water is fine. Way better the average for the Caribbean.

Soufriere

I am not sure why but their seems to be a Soufriere on every islad. This anchorage is at the very south east end of the island in Scotts head. Their is a lighthouse on the point so even at night is easy to get to. Its very well protected from everything except a north swell.

Charlotte Ville

This is both an anchorage and mooring field. I warn you from experiance that the drop off here is fast and sudden. You need to get real close to shore in order to anchor. I advise against it. Call the hotel on CH16 and grab a mooring ball. It's only $10 and will let you sleep easy at night.

Grand Marigot Bay

This anchorage is located on the east side of the island. So needless to say it is not viable the majority of the time. You may be traveling up the east cost and need a spot to hide. This is the only place. You will be protected from a north and south swell.

Dominica Anchorages

Anchoring anywhere in Dominica is sketchy. Their are only narrow shelfs near shore to anchor on with extreme drop-offs.
